IAPP Asia Privacy Forum and the Personal Data Protection Week 18-21 July 2023
EDPO attended the IAPP Asia Privacy Forum and the Personal Data Protection Week (organised by the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC)) this week in Singapore.
It’s already the end of three insightful and intensive days. The burning subject was how AI will be approached along with already-existing data protection and security questions. Will it be the role of the DPO to take on these new responsibilities, or should companies start appointing « Data Ethics Officers »? Cross-border transfers are the main challenge for companies and counsels alike. What will be the future of the PIPL enforcement in China and how will this align with the rest of the world? Also, privacy regulations are popping up in numerous Asian countries and the GDPR may no longer remain the golden standard… Privacy professionals are determined to reach a globalised, harmonised approach to data protection, as complying with so many different standards will become too burdensome in our international economy.
We attended many insightful keynotes and had countless fun tea breaks with passionate fellow privacy pros. Once again, the IAPP conference ends with a feeling of collegial benevolence and fruitful exchanges. Meet us at the next IAPP Congress in Brussels!
