IAPP AI Governance : What about AI Literacy ?
EDPO attended the IAPP’s AI Governance: What about AI Literacy? event. The conference provided valuable insights into AI literacy and its critical role in governance.
AI literacy is essential for both providers and deployers, each with different purposes. Providers need in-depth technical knowledge about AI, while deployers must understand how to effectively use AI systems.
One key point that was discussed was the distinction between the AI Act and the GDPR. The AI Act focuses on product safety with some individual rights considerations, whereas the GDPR is more consumer-focused.
Understanding which AI systems fall under the scope of the AI Act is crucial. A CE mark is mandatory for placing AI products on the market, presenting a challenge as AI products can change post-market.
Another significant challenge is how the different EU legislative pieces will interact and how Member States will implement and coordinate the AI Act.
A special thank you to IAPP for organising the event!
