What our certification covers

Our certified scope is not limited to data protection. It covers the processes behind our representative services under six regimes.

Geographically, the scope covers the EU/EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, for services we provide to companies located outside those regions.

What is ISO 27001?

The international standard for information security management.

Certification means an organisation has implemented an Information Security Management System — a documented set of policies, controls and processes for identifying and managing information security risks — and that an independent, accredited body has audited that system and confirmed it meets the standard.

Certification is not a one-off exam. Certified organisations are audited every year and fully recertified every three years. EDPO has held the certification without interruption since February 2023.

Is ISO 27001 certification required under the GDPR?

No — and that is rather the point.

The GDPR does not require any particular certification. Article 32 requires appropriate technical and organisational measures, and leaves each organisation to determine what is appropriate for the risks it handles. The Regulation does provide for its own certification mechanisms under Article 42, but ISO 27001 is not one of them.

ISO 27001 is a way of showing that those measures exist, are documented, and are checked by someone who does not work for us. We hold it because our clients entrust us with their regulatory correspondence — not because a regulation obliges us to.

What this means when you appoint EDPO

Appointing a representative means putting sensitive material into someone else’s hands.

Data subject requests, correspondence with supervisory authorities, records of processing activities, compliance documentation and confidential business information all pass through us. Certification changes what you are relying on when they do:

Controls that have been independently audited, rather than assurances we give about ourselves.
A documented chain for how requests and documents are received, stored, transmitted and retained.
Defined procedures for detecting and responding to security incidents.
An external audit every year, and full recertification every three years.
It is also practical. When your procurement, IT security or legal team runs its own due diligence on us, the certificate answers most of the questionnaire before it reaches you.

The security measures our ISMS covers

Audited annually, and reviewed continuously.
Continuous monitoring of potential security threats
Regular risk assessments and internal audits
Strict access management and encryption measures
Secure storage and transmission practices
Incident detection and response procedures
Ongoing improvement of security processes
Governance of the suppliers and subprocessors we rely on
Security awareness training across the team
Enhancing client trust through robust data security measures is the core of our technical infrastructure. By achieving ISO 27001 certification, we provide our clients with a verified framework that guarantees the highest levels of data security. This commitment ensures that all sensitive information handled during international GDPR representation is protected against evolving cyber threats, data breaches, and unauthorized system access.

Appoint a representative you can entrust with your regulatory correspondence
